Another attempt at a tanka for Ronovan’s challenge. Maybe closer to the real thing.
I count the days
watch the movement of the clouds
blown by the wind
the yellowing of the leaves
another year slips by

This has the feel of autumn. (K)
Everything is so parched and the leaves are falling in yellow drifts
Unpretentiously lovely.
Thank you! I’m glad it isn’t pretentious. I’d hate that.
Me too.

It does feel like the beginning of autumn–and not pretentious at all. ๐
There’s a dry, dusty feel, and the leaves are falling. Too tired to hang on. We’re supposed to be having storms tonight. I hope we do.
I hope you do get some rain, and things perk up a bit. I’m certainly not ready for fall yet. It always seems kind of sad to me.
We’re supposed to be having a stonker of a storm tonight. Crossing fingers!
Every change towards the end is sad. Even spring into summer is sad.
Is stonker another Yorkshire word? It’s great.
When spring moves to summer, the days get longer and there are more birds singing, so that makes me happy, though I understand what you mean about any change.
I think stonker is general British. My mother used to describe our rather peasant workhorse legs as stonkers ๐

Thank you, I’m pleased you enjoyed it ๐
Ah yes, autumn is coming right up, my favorite time of year. Nicely conveyed, Jane.
Thank you, Pat ๐ It does feel suddenly autumnal. Probably just because it’s been too hot lately.
Here too!
