Another element

Many fingered like the sea

a heaving mass beneath the coping of the sky

sopping up the clarity with spongy paws

it wrings sweat from the veiled air

puddled in vague yellow unclear green

dripping dry and crisp beneath the tread

this heat slows the workings of the world

like syrup in the wheels and cogs

silencing even the irritable crows.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

  1. To say the least, you’ve made heat palpable. The colors, “vague yellow unclear green,” add an illness aspect. And even the crows are quiet–that is something!

I hope you’re all coping all right.

    1. We’ll survive thanks. 104°F today but it will be slightly cooler from tomorrow.
I realise I’ve picked out the colours as I imagined them from your poem, as if it was the same line of thought. The sky was slightly veiled this morning with great billows of white heat cloud. Everything was vague, like the heat from an oven.
