Quadrille: Bathtime

The dverse prompt is a quadrille including giggles. The suggestion is to keep it light-hearted. Not my usual kind of thing, but here goes for the giggles.

Baby bathtime,

slipping, splashing,

drowning ducks and making rainbow bubbles,

soapy hair, foamy hands

and lost feet,

oh, there they are!

Held high, now,

Pink, kicking and dripping,

wrapped, laughter-squealing,

warm towel-embraced,

while bath water giggles and gurgles in echo

down the plug hole.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

      1. One claimed a sore foot so could only put one in…..so we band-aided it and gave it maximum sympathy, he was most pleased with the attention and not having to get wet…lol

      2. Yes we often go in extremes, one wont get out he’s having so much fun the other won’t get in…but they never like being called a smelly bum…lol

      3. That is so true….lol…..they fill their bath with enough toys that there is barely room for them and play away until the water get cold or I get sick of waiting around for them….I’m talking a 2yr old and a 3yr old here….

      4. And guess who has to fish out all the dozens of toys from the soapy water and rinse them off. And there’s always one toy that should never be put in water, or bits drop off it and go down the plug. The more I think about it, the more I really hated bathtime en masse.

      5. Yes I know….one of the boys has a bad skin condition so he has to be washed in special soap which I discovered is akin to glue and takes extra effort to wash off….thankfully I don’t have this pleasure very often these days…

      6. I’m in the breathing space, the few years between the youngest one doing her own bathtimes and the next batch coming along. Can’t say I’m champing at the bit.

      7. Wow you have batches??? lol….I had six and now 8 gkids but thankfully a few of them live away from me….my daughter rang this morning to book me up for this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon…

  1. Love this and the way the bath water does too as it gurgles and giggles down the plughole. I do miss the joy of baby bath-times – maybe I should become an elderly mother…
    Kind regards

    1. Thank you! We have a public square here that has a thin film of water run over it to give a mirror effect for the surrounding buildings. It’s incredible how this water mirror has been taken over by hordes of kids in the summer to play in, from crawlers in nappies to adults with trouser legs rolled up!

  2. You really nailed it with giggling bath water. We have 7 grandchildren, & bath time is quite the giggle-fest during sleep overs.

    1. My first four children were six years between the oldest and youngest so they were bathed together when the baby was old enough to sit up on her own. That was hair raising…When I have grandchildren I can’t see me doing that again!

  3. What a lot of suds! Somehow, never found anything quite so foamy (or maybe I was trying to avoid having to clean the tub for hours afterwards). I don’t miss the bathtime so much as the bedtime reading – now they do it all by themselves….

    1. The foam never lasted very long but it was always fun while it did. The bedtime reading I remember with mixed feelings. There were some stories, long and very boring that they loved and requested every single evening. Husband used to fall asleep reading. I used to abridge, but they always knew and I’d get hostile ‘Just read it’ nudges.

    1. It was fun except I almost invariably received chatty phone calls, from people who don’t go away when asked, and was always terrified one of them would drown while I was arguing.
