In the dawn damp
at the forestโs edge,
a red shadow glides.
Bird hush breaks
at sunrise
bright as the brush
of a sleeping fox.
*
March
and mist blows in from the sea
coating my lips in salt
and the electric tang
of unseen vastness.
*
In the night,
a cry,
a bark wilder than any dogโs,
and the sterile concrete of the streets
shivers at the sound.
*
There is a window in the wind
that blows across the river.
Look carefully and you will see
wild swans flying home.
Another one that got away. I bet there are laughing gulls there, too. ๐
Wherever there’s fun, there are laughing gulls ๐
๐
Also, I like the window in the wind.
Thank you! It’s a rather strange image but one that I could see so clearly.
I thought of it as the portal.
That’s the idea ๐ Glad you saw it too.
I’m a portal spotting expert. ๐
I like watching out for them on roundabouts. I don’t know if you have those, the circular mound thing that roads run round at a junction. Here, the local authorities seem to make it a point of honour to install weird sculptures in the middle of roundabouts, and most of them look like portals to another universe. This is one near us.
That made me laugh. We have traffic circles, where everyone tries to guess if they’re supposed to go or not, and if you’re not familiar with it, then you don’t know which was to go anyway. No weird statues in the middle though. And no portals, that I’ve seen. Hmmm. . .I guess if you make the wrong turn or move a bit too far to right or left. . .
You lot just have no imagination! They have become quite an institution here, and cause a lot of mockery. One day, someone will drive over a roundabout and disappear…
Ahh–well don’t lump me in with the no imagine people because I certainly see that happening. But yeah, our circles are boring while still a bit scary in a am I going to crash kind of way. ๐
The kind of thing that happens in nightmares, you just keep going round and round, never finding the right exit and not being able to get into the outside lane to leave by any exit!
And the unimaginative people I was referring to are the planners who don’t see the possibilities of these circles for implanting portals to other universes…
